Aug 25, 2026

Yoga is not just about physical discipline or performing postures correctly. It is a way of life that promotes physical health, mental well-being, and inner balance.

C-DAC, Delhi, in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has achieved a milestone with the launch of ‘Aasanan’, a smart yoga companion app which is paving the way for mindful wellness. Launched on August25th,2026, the app has a simple yet meaningful purposeto bring the benefits of technology closer to the practice of Yoga.

Aasanan aims to make yoga practice and cognitive wellness accessible by combining Artificial Intelligence, Yoga and traditional Indian knowledge systems. The app uses modern technology to provide users with guidance during their yoga practice while also introducing cognitive-wellness practices inspired by India’s traditional knowledge.

Using the mobile camera, Aasanan identifies 33 three-dimensional body landmarks in every frame. It then compares the user’s posture with a reference posture and provides real-time, joint-level feedback to help users perform asanas more accurately. Along with physical yoga practice, the app also includes Hasta Mudras, such as Gyan Mudra to support concentration and Hakini Mudra to support memory. Other features include personalised real-time guidance, hands-free visual cues, combined yoga and mudra sessions, and a session analytics dashboard that helps users track their asana practice, hold accuracy, confidence score, frequently missed joints and overall mudra-practice progress.

Speaking at the launch event as the Chief Guest, Shri Jitendra Singh, Centre Head, C-DAC Delhi, highlighted C-DAC’s continued efforts to develop AI and technology-based solutions for public health and wellness. Prof. (Dr.) Kashinath Samagandi, Director, MDNIY, appreciated the integration of Artificial Intelligence with India’s traditional knowledge systems and highlighted the potential of taking the application to a wider audience through Ayush outreach programmes, schools, universities, and rural and semi-urban areas.

Aasanan has been developed by the Neuro Cognitive AI & XR Group, C-DAC Delhi, under the guidance of Dr. Priyanka Jain, Scientist F & Head, with significant contribution from Dr. Khushbu Jain, Assistant Professor (Biochemistry), Department of Yoga and Allied Sciences, MDNIY. The launch of Aasanan is an important step towards making Yoga and cognitive wellness accessible and connecting India’s traditional wellness practices with modern AI and digital technology.
