Training Programme on Responsible and Safe AI

C-DAC Mohali successfully organised a five-day DSTsponsored National Training Programme on "Responsible and Safe AI: Concepts, Applications and Ethical Considerations" from November 10th – 14th, 2025.The programme brought together 24 scientists and technologists from diverse government organisations across the country, including DRDO, SEBI, ICMR institutes, CSIR laboratories, AIIMS, technical and agricultural universities, NABARD, BBMB, National Test House, and various central and state government departments. Their active participation and insightful engagement significantly enriched the programme and enhanced its overall impact.

The inaugural session, featured an address by Ms. Sonia Dosanjh, Scientist F and HoD - AAIA Division, who briefed the participants on the significance of the training programme and its strong alignment with the IndiaAI Mission, which promotes trustworthy, transparent, and accountable AI innovation for public good. She underscored the importance of equipping government scientists and technologists with the capabilities to design, evaluate, and deploy ethical and compliant AI systems across critical sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, governance, cybersecurity, environment, and public administration.

The training covered a wide range of critical topics essential for understanding and implementing responsible AI practices in government-led scientific and technological initiatives. Sessions spanned fundamental concepts of AI, machine learning and deep learning architectures, bias in AI systems, explainability, adversarial robustness, standards and compliance frameworks, AI management systems, generative AI cybersecurity, domain-specific LLM development, and hands-on demonstrations. The programme also included an industrial exposure visit and expert-led practical demonstrations to strengthen experiential learning. The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Sanjay Madan Scientist E, Shri. Chetan Manchanda PTO- I, Shri. Ankit Khurana Scientist D, Ms. P Sailaja, Scientist D and Ms. Neeraj Sharma, Project Engineer.

Shri V. K. Sharma, Scientist G and Centre Head, C-DAC Mohali, interacted with the participants during the training session, providing an open forum for them to share insights and experiences gained throughout the programme. The participants expressed strong appreciation for the relevance and depth of the course content, noting its close alignment with the technological challenges and opportunities within their respective scientific domains. The balanced blend of technical, ethical, regulatory, and application-oriented sessions was especially valued for its practical utility in shaping and guiding AI initiatives across government departments.
